Tesamorelin on a Mass Spectrometer: Charge States of a 5,136 Dalton Peptide
This article describes published laboratory science for educational purposes. It makes no claims about use in people.
Tesamorelin 10mg has a molecular weight of about 5,136 Da. In electrospray mass spectrometry it picks up several protons, so it appears as a series of peaks.
The ladder
| Charge | m/z |
|---|---|
| 4+ | about 1,285 |
| 5+ | about 1,028 |
| 6+ | about 857 |
| 7+ | about 735 |
Why so many?
Tesamorelin has eight basic sites, including arginine and lysine residues, plus the N-terminus. Each can take a proton, so higher charge states are common.
How to check
Pick any two adjacent peaks. If they belong to the ladder, multiplying each by its charge and subtracting the protons gives the same mass. If you get two different masses, there may be two compounds.
