Post-Acne Dark Marks Refuse to Leave, Cite Squatters’ Rights
Dark marks left behind by a pimple that healed in September told reporters they “have no plans to leave” and cited what they called squatters’ rights.
“We’ve been here for eight weeks,” one mark said. “We’ve set up a small garden.”
What those marks really are
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation happens when inflamed skin makes extra melanin, the pigment, as it heals. It is different from a true scar, which involves changes in collagen. Marks often fade over months, faster in some people than in others, and sun exposure can darken them.
Where peptide research touches pigment
- Melanocortin peptides are studied for how they signal pigment cells
- GHK-Cu is studied for skin repair and remodeling signals
- Researchers carefully separate pigment questions from scar questions
The dark marks were last seen consulting a lawyer, who advised them to “fade gracefully.”
